Certified extract (made in 1793) of entry in Rolls of Kings Silver Office - relating to transfer of Property.
Ballingdon: Michaelmas Term, 1767 . 0. Certified extract examined with the entry at the Kings Silver Office, Court Temple (made in January 2nd, 1793), and signed W. Daw. - Relating to transfer of five messuages in Ballingdon, from Roger & Mary Wood, to Michael Wood & Roger Prickle. Small sheet of paper with some creasing and small tear to one edge. A search on the internet has provided details of another document: Handwritten English vellum indenture dated 1767 during the reign of King George III being the conveyance of property in Ballingdon in the County of Essex between Roger Wood, a Currier, and his wife Mary, both of Bury St Edmunds, and Roger Prickle, a Gentleman, and Michael Wood, Cabinet Maker. Nicely penned with fancy printed vignette, blonded revenue stamp with insert, tax stamp, and FOUR red wax seals on cloth tags.

G+ . * "Writer and historian Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881), nicknamed the Sage of Chelsea, together with his wife Jane moved to 5 Cheyne Row in 1834 and lived there until 1881. The Queen Anne house was purchased by public subscription in 1895 and the Carlyle's House Memorial Trust was formed to administer it, opening to the public in 1896. It was transferred to the National Trust in 1936. It contains the Carlyles' furniture, pictures, books and other possessions, and behind the house is their Victorian walled garden. Carlyle often sat here, and in hot weather wrote in the garden, an awning occasionally erected for the purpose. The half title: "Contemplations. The First Booke.. By Jos. Hall D. of Divinitie, and Deane of Worcester. Imprinted at London in the yeare 1634." There are infact 21 further titles contained within this collection of Hall's works. Slight irregular staining throughout. The final leaf is damaged with 10% loss, affecting 10 lines of text. The last 80 leaves have been carefuly strengthened, the degradation of the paper somtimes affecting the marginal notes. 19th century cloth binding with later re-back. Overall a well preserved book.
