¶ In zijn boek beschrijft Eddy Fraiture niet enkel de Vlaamse uurwerken en hun makers, maar verklaart hij ook aan de hand van historische en sociologische feiten, de opgang, de bloei en de teloorgang van de Vlaamse uurwerknijverheid. Nooit werd dit onderwerp zo uitvoerig en toegankelijk voor niet-specialisten behandeld. Wie had verwacht dat Vlamingen door Europa trokken om torenuurwerken te bouwen? Wie weet dat tijdens de 16de eeuw de Leuvense en Antwerpse bouwers van tijdmeetinstrumenten de beste ter wereld waren? ¶ Sa Vie a Travers Son Oeuvre - His Life through His Works. Second edition completed and enlarged edition of the original book published in 1995. The book presents 130 clocks in 380 illustrations. Bi-lingual English / French edition printed in 1000 copies only. Antide Janvier, great clockmaker of the late 18th and early 19th century, died in extreme poverty and without descent. Knowing his work, we consider that he was possibly the greatest clockmaker of all time; an idea that is now slightly becoming more and more approved. After the first edition of this book, a result of several years of investigation released in 1995, a second edition became necessary to complete the list of his works due to the discoveries and indications of new clocks since then. As in the previous edition, all clocks are numbered and presented in a chronological order with a serial number attributed in accordance with the numbering system already started by Antide Janvier and arbitrarily completed.
