Dayton, R.J. Skinner, 1819. Original full brown leather. Covers worn and rubbed. text stained throughout on upper half of pages. Binding firm and tight. Good condition. Old signatures and writing on endpapers from the Alfred Brunson Family, including Alfred Brunson's clearly legible signature on the title page. He was a prominent Methodist circuit rider in Ohio who would eventually settle in Wisconsin and serve in its Territorial Legilsature. THE FIRST ACTUAL BOOK PRINTED IN DAYTON, OHIO. Ohio Imprints 519. The earliest printing in Dayton dates back to 1808 when The Dayton Repertory newspaper was issued. Advertisements exist for a hymnal proposed to be published in 1810 but no copies exist and the hymanl was probably never published. Otherwise there are three pamphlets issued prior to this book. Skinner's 1819 printing of the Watson work at 190 pages and bound in leather is the first actual "book" known to be printed in Dayton. .
