Tegenover de opvatting alsof logica en gevoel elkaar wederzijds zouden uitsluiten, poneert de auteur een wijsgerige visie waarbij gevoel en emotie de ontwikkelingen van 's mensen logisch leerproces sturen. Daartoe ontwikkelt hij zijn theorie omtrent de drie stabiliteitsslagen in de cultuur. In onze cultuur zijn de drie stabiliteitslagen opgebouwd in een maatschappelijk leerproces: die van een natuurlijk systeem, van een sociaal regelsysteem en ten slotte van een communicatief systeem. Elke stabiliteitslaag ontwikkelt een andere logica en verleent daardoor betekenis aan het gevoel. Elk systeem brengt ook een ander mensentype voor. De auteur (1934) is werkzaam als filosoof en kennistheoreticus te Amsterdam en Brussel. Hij verdedigt zijn opvattingen met allure, soms wat al te breedvoerig, soms meeslepend. Ik verwacht dat wie zich aan lezing en overdenking van dit vaak originele werk zet, met vele intrigerende vragen geconfronteerd wordt omtrent de geldigheid van zijn denken en de mogelijkheid van (toetsbare) menselijke redelijkheid.
