In 1996 begon hij met een groot internationaal muziekproject. Hij nodigde wereldwijd componisten uit om een kort stuk voor hem te schrijven, waarin de soul van de blues hoorbaar is. Vervolgens speelde hij deze blues op zijn concertreizen naar de ongeveer vijftig landen waar de composities vandaan kwamen, werkte eraan met de makers en hield een dagboek bij van zijn ervaringen. Het bluesproject bood hem de kans om zijn twee muzikale werelden, die van de klassieke muziek en van de jazz, te combineren. Vanaf 2003 schreef Marcel Worms regelmatig reisverslagen voor het tijdschrift Mens en Melodie. Zo ontstond het idee om zijn ervaringen in een meer blijvende vorm vast te leggen. Door de vele ontmoetingen met musici en componisten heeft hij aspecten van menig land of regio leren kennen die je als toerist meestal ontgaan. Vaak bleken de landen waar hij naartoe reisde aan de vooravond van een ingrijpende verandering te staan of hadden ze die net achter de rug. Ook deze politieke en sociale ontwikkelingen, o.a. op de Balkan, in het Midden-Oosten, in Zuid- Amerika en Zuidelijk Afrika, komen in dit boek aan de orde. 'Uit de ruim honderd reizen waarop hij als muzikant de Nederlandse grens passeerde heeft Marcel Worms voor dit boek een selectie gemaakt. Naast zijn muzikale belevenissen geeft hij zijn indrukken weer van het land en probeert hij zijn drijfveren als reizend muzikant te ontdekken.
