150 Years of Art in Manitoba: Struggle for a Visual Civilization
Winnipeg: Winnipeg Art Gallery, 1970. Paper bound in illustrated wrappers, oblong 8vo, illustrated with plates in colour and black & white, xii + Pp115. A tight and clean, very good or better copy. An exhibition for the Manitoba Centennial, 1970. From the foreword: The title of our exhibition, '150 Years of Art in Manitoba,' means art created in Manitoba or art created for Manitoba. It includes, also, art created by Manitobans who left the province. It puts emphasis on art and is not mainly a historical exhibition, although the historical value of some works may have influenced us in making our choices. Works are those of professional artists or of amateurs. The exhibition shos painting and sculpture, including drawings, prints, and, sometimes, photography. We had to omit crafts, because the material would have been too extensive, and also church art, although the thought of including ecclesiastic sculpture and painting and stained-glass windows was very tempting.' Very good. 415 grams. We welcome all reasonable offers on our books.
