Dogs hunting deer
A large pack of hunting dogs attack a couple of deer.Etching on hand laid paper, sheet size 317 x 214 mm., platemark 314 x 213 mm., etching by Conrad Lauwers (Antwerp 1632-Antwerp 1685) after Frans Snijders (Antwerp 1579- Antwerp 1675), and published by Cornelis Galle (I), c. 1650.In good condition, margins cropped close to the platemark. A small nick in the lower edge (minimally affecting image, repaired). Some faint stains in the margins.Reference: Hollstein 29 (only state).

Landscape with methods of finch hunting
Engraving on wove paper, a copy in reverse from ca. 1800, after plate 79 from Jan van der Straet's 'Venationes' (originally published by Philips Galle in 1578). It shows men hunting for small birds with different methods, and bears the caption: 'Planior aequato cum facta est area tergo, retibus expansis mitis fraudatur acanthis'. The series shows traditional hunting methods for local animals (birds, otters, boar, etc.) but also exotic species such as elephants. 108 x 146 mm., cropped within platemark, mild soiling in the corners.

Hunting wild bull and battue for boar
Two engravings on one sheet, anonymous copies in reverse after the hunting scenes by Antonio Tempesta. Possibly from the workshop of Claes Jansz. Visscher, as they did publish a smaller sized series of 12 hunting scenes after Tempesta (cf. Hollstein 160 and 171). Engraving on hand laid paper with two watermarks (crowned GR (churchill 213) and Pro Patria), sheet size 330 x 418 mm., platemarks 184 x 218 mm.One print shows three riders and dogs attacking a bull that is running toward a spiked instrument on wheels. The other print shows riders and footmen driving boars toward netting.An interesting and curious sheet, with the two plates printed on one sheet, but obviously intended to be separated, as the images are printed in opposite directions.In good condition, some soiling and small nicks in the margin edges, a tear in the margin just between the two plates.l I
