2 Picture Puzzle: Dual Purpose
N.p. N.p. n.y. Hardcover. Small 4to. Blue pictorial paper over boards. No pages (as issued). Very good. Bit of edgewear. "Book" opens to reveal two side-by-side puzzles, with all pieces present and in superb condition. The left pastedown puzzle shows four small floral arrangements, while the right pastedown puzzle is titled "National Wildlife Conservation Series" and depicts nine wildlife stamp scenes. Each image in this latter puzzle bears the copyright data "1948 National Wildlife Federation, Washington, D.C." but it is unclear whether this organization was the publisher of this bibliographically-challenged "book." Unusual and quite handsome. .

, Pine Homes and Pine Interiors
Pine Homes and Pine Interiors
Minneapolis, The Barta Press, 1930. Paperback. Preface by Joseph Everett Chandler. 4to. Stiff cream string-tied wrappers with gilt lettering and front wrapper sepia-tone steel engraving. (Ca. 50pp). Numerous sepia-tone illustrations, map. Very good. Mild wear to outer wrappers (only), else internally near fine. Intriguing promotional booklet for Shevlin, Carpenter & Clarke Company, "Manufacturers and Merchants of Pine Lumber," featuring an actual plate-marked steel engraved image of a charming interior pine-walled living room. "Pine in the Early American Home" takes the reader room-by-room through a classic colonial home, highlighting of course the extensive use of pine throughout, while "Pine in the Eighteenth Century American Home" and "Pine in the Modern American Office, Hotel, Club and Shop" chapters go into further detail and it all closes with the hard-sell "Shevlin Pine" chapter talks up this company, explaining and showing where and how it sources its pine. Laid in loose at the close (presumably as issued) are three inserts addressing "Pine," "Colonial Pine Treatment" and "Color Reveals the Beauty of Knotty Pine." Colonial architecture experienced quite a revival in the early 20th century and of course Shevlin, Carpenter & Clarke sought to capitalize on this. A delightful and impressive sales pitch. Accompanied by the prospectus for Russell Hawes Kettell's "The Pine Furniture of Early New England," 4to, wrappers, a 5-page excerpt from this 1929 Doubleday, Doran & Company classic that "shows Title page, Table of Contents page and four specimen pages from the book itself" -- interesting, relevant, unusual. Very good. .

Private Memoirs of an Officer of the Dragoons
London, At the Sign of the Blue Nose, 1898. Paperback. Small 4to. Stiff plain black wrappers. 73pp. Very good. Wrappers slightly edgeworn and irregularly age toned; some text pages rather age toned along edges. Tight and decent, this early 20th century erotica is limited to 1025 copies. Like most such titles, the publisher, place of publication and year of publication are rightfully suspect -- a New York publisher of such underground material might list a location far-removed (often by an ocean) and even a year decades-removed in order to circumvent pornography laws. Sometimes seen in lush leather binding, this copy is bound in a stereotypical plain wrapper. .
