Burgerhuizen tussen IJssel en Eems 1400-1850

In het gebied tussen de rivieren IJssel en Eems is nog veel te zien van de architectuur van de traditionele burgerhuizen, hun gevels, siervormen, plattegrondtypen en interieurdetails. De verschillende architectuurstijlen vindt men in de huizen uit de periode 1400 tot 1850 terug. Toch is ook een streekeigen bouwkunst duidelijk herkenbaar. De sociale verschillen tekenen zich af in de gevelarchitectuur. Naast het driebeukige hallehuis en het eenbeukige deelhuistype ontwikkelde men voor de rijke burgerij en de patriciërs zaalhuistypes met meerdere verdiepingen, vaak diep naar achteren uitgebouwd. Een monumentale gang (in het midden of opzij) bepaalde de plattegrond van het rijkere burgerhuis tussen IJssel en Eems sinds 1530. Interessant is ook het verspreidingsgebied van de Gelders-Overijsselse renaissancegevel van baksteen, met in- en uitgezwenkte contouren, fialen en kruisvensters met glas-in-loodvullingen. In enkele musea in dit gebied (Zwolle, Vreden, Enschede, Bentheim, Lingen) bleven stijlkamers bewaard, die een beeld geven van de meubilering en binnenhuisarchitectuur van de rijkere burgerhuizen. De uitgave behandelt de burgverhuisvormen in Twente, de Gelderse Achterhoek, het Duits-Nederlandse grensgebied en in de Sallandse IJsselsteden. Aandacht wordt besteed aan een aantal bijzondere aspecten die kenmerkend waren voor de streek en de periode. Een gedetailleerde beschrijving van een groot aantal burgerhuizen uit het betreffende gebied vormt het sluitstuk van deze uitgave.
