A set of three hardcover books rebound in modern navy blue cloth, retaining the original leather spine labels. Very good condition. Volume I lacks the frontispiece portrait. Only volume II has the half-title page; volumes I and III do not. Each full title page has an 18th-century owner's pretty, flourished signature in the middle (Benjn. Cornick Ridgate). Otherwise, each volume has clean, crisp pages with only minimal foxing and age-tanning. The binding is quite secure and the covers are barely shelf-worn. Sturdy, readable, and attractive shape for their age! A very scarce and important work articulating key tenets of mixed government, originally published as America's leaders convened to amend (and eventually replace) the Articles of Confederation.
