Twelve short stories, which were originally serialized in the Strand, including: The Custody of the Pumpkin, Company for Gertrude, A Bobbie Wickham Story, and The Mulliners of Hollywood. This copy is supplied with a later issue dust jacket, with an overprice sticker on the spine, and printed with a new list of Wodehouse's works. Written by Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, an English author and one of the most widely read humorists of the 20th century. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, very smart with fading to the spine and edges of the boards. Later edition dust wrapper is smart with chipping and tears. Loss to the head of the spine and rear board, with minor loss to the tail of the spine and front board. Internally, firmly bound. 1856 Manuscript Letter from British Liberal John Wodehouse About His Upcoming Travel to Russia
England, 1856. Non-Book. On offer is an Autographed Signed Letter (ASL) of John Wodehouse, 1st Earl of Kimberley (1826-1902). Dated Foreign Office, June 2/[18]56. The letter is expressing delight that "Ker" will be in St. Petersburg when he is. Written in the days before his travel for his posting there. Signed, Wodehouse. John Wodehouse was at Petersburg, Russia, exactly two years from June 1856 until May 1858. "Ker" may refer to Henry Ker Seymer (1807-1864) ? ? Of Hanford House was the Member of Parliament for Dorset. Letter measures 7-1/4 x 9 inches. Autograph letter signed. Three pages. Good condition. John Wodehouse, 1st Earl of Kimberley was a British Liberal politician. He held office in every Liberal administration from 1852 to 1895, notably as Secretary of State for the Colonies and as Foreign Secretary. He was known as the Lord Wodehouse from 1846 to 1866. He was the only Liberal to serve in every Cabinet of the Gladstone/ Rosebery time period. He was at the colonial office when responsible government was granted to Cape Colony, and when British Columbia was added to the Dominion of Canada.
