Dreiser, Theodore; Eugene O"Neill; George Jean Nathan; Ernest Boyd; James Branch Cabell, editors and contributors
The American Spectator: A Literary Newspaper, Volume 1, Numbers 1-12 (Oct 1932 through Sep 1933)
1932. 1st Edition. 0 pp. No Binding. Good to near fine 4-page newspapers. No wrinkling, no creases, no foxing. Only flaw, besides yellowing of paper, is split at fold to one-half of 1 of 4 pages in five issues. The editors and other successful American authors write timely articles on literary topics, such as "The American Novel" by Dreiser in Issue 1. There is also frequent commentary on social and political issues as in Sherwood Anderson's letter to Theodore Dreiser offering his estimate of the Depression's affect on the young in the West who are starving for new leadership to give them meaningful work. Writers give analysis of the works of other authors, such as "A Guess at George Ade" by Booth Tarkington (Issue 3). Each issue contains meaty content on subjects both literary and non-literary -- all related to the turbulent American culture of the1930s. Good.
