Provenance: In this copy there is a separate dedication page (to A. M. Davidson) and no reference to the thesis-status is made. Other copies carry the subtitle "seconde thèse" and have the dedication to Davidson on the title page verso. The author points out the huge differences between the brachiopods and the molluscan bivalves. Inscribed and signed by the author in ink the title page. Some minor spotting, but otherwise a very good copy with very wide margins. Uncoloured copies are known too. Rare.

Printed wrappers, A seldom-seen well-illustrated monograph on very well-preserved Jurassic gastropods and cephalopods. Especially the gastropods are numerous and diverse. Ammonites and nautiloids form a small minority. Written by the French geologists and palaeontologists Edmond Hébert (1812-1890), geology professor at the Sorbonne, and Eugène Eudes-Deslongchamps (1830-1889), professor of geology and zoology at the University of Caen. The excellent illustrations are by a Mr Hubert of whom little else is known. Published in the society's Bulletin, volume 5, together with several other contributions including another paper on fossil molluscs by Eudes-Deslongchamps, viz. Observations concernant quelques gastéropodes fossiles des terrains Jurassiques. Placés par l'auteur de la Paléontologie française dans les genres Purpurina, Trochus et Turbo. (31 pp. and three lithographed plates by the author, an accomplished shell-illustrator himself). Uncut. Binding a bit weak, wrappers with slight soiling and wear, internally very good, unmarked.

Splendidly bound set of this chronological history of France written by the French historian François Eudes de Mézeray (1610-1683), first published in 1667-1668. The history begins with the reign of Faramond and ends with that of Henry IV. The supplement treats France's origin and history before the reign of Clovis. The Abrégé went through at least 15 editions between 1668 and 1717. ''Édition la plus recherchée de l'Abrégé de Mezeray'' (Willems).With slight browning to a leaf or two in some volumes, but generally in fine condition. Bindings fine. Complete in thirteen volumes. Volumes I-X were published in 1717. Volumes XI-XIII were published in 1728. These last three volumes look at the reigns of Louis XIII and Louis XIV. An extended and annotated edition of Mezeray's famous 'Abrege Chronologique de l'Histoire de France&apos. The work was original published in three volumes in 1667-8. The work looks in depth into the origins and history of France, looking in detail into the French monarchs of history. Volume XI contains a life of Mezeray. Volume II illustrated with six vignettes. Volume III illustrated with nineteen vignettes. Volume IV illustrated with ten vignettes. Volume V illustrated with nine vignettes. Volume VI illustrated with four vignettes. Volume VII illustrated with three vignettes. Volume VIII illustrated with three vignettes. Volume IX illustrated with two vignettes. Volume XI illustrated with a frontispiece.
