Some of the plates at the back are creased but have no tears. This second edition combines Geological Observations on the Volcanic Islands with Geological Observations on South America. It has a new preface by Charles Darwin. Rare early edition. Good.

Originally published in 1844 and 1846 as parts 2 (Volcanic Islands) and 3 (South America) of Darwin's geological results of the Beagle voyage. In this edition, both parts are combined, and although called a second edition the text was not altered, apart from a few new references given in the Preface.
