Waldo Frank was a social activist and a prolific writer in the early 1900s. A self-proclaimed "naturalistic mystic" he vehemently declared his beliefs that the only solution to world problems was the achieving of one's complete unity with the whole universe. He has often been compared to D. H. Lawrence and James Joyce. His literary fame in the US was sporadic and began declining in the early 1930s, though it continued growing exponentially in South America. With his increasing devotion to literary "left" politics Frank traveled to Russia and later described his experiences in his current book. Ill.: 0. 3.
