Emily Greene Balch was an American economist, pacifist and winner of the 1946 Nobel Peace Prize. She had an academic career at Wellesley College before helping to lead the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. It was her efforts with this organization that earned her the Nobel Prize in 1946. She focused on child labor, poverty and immigration, working to ameliorate poor conditions for people worldwide. GOOD condition. Heavy chipping, tearing, and tattering to the jacket along the spine and extremities, with some loss. Staining and heavy toning to the jacket present, along with creasing and wrinkling. Some soiling, staining and toning to the book, with heavy offsetting to the front endpapers from the items laid in. Good/Good.
