A newsletter type journal issued by SPARC (Social and Public Art Resource Center) in Venice, California. Founded in 1976 by Judy Baca, Christina Schlesinger and Donna Deitch, SPARC was inspired by the Chicano Art Movement and by Baca's work with the Los Angeles Citywide Mural Program, a program that sought to beautify neighborhoods through murals and other art projects. SPARC allowed the founders to avoid censorship issues that arose and worked with community artists and kids. In 1988 the Great Walls Unlimited program started, culminating in 105 murals being painted throughout the city by 2003, when a moratorium was issued by the city of Los Angeles. The organization still operates today. This issue discusses an exhibition at SPARC's headquarters; an exhibition at the Smithsonian; news about new murals completed, along with three illustrations, etc. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning and edgewear. Very Good .
