Author: Goode, George (artist) Title: Now! Free My Mind. Black Liberation Poster. Blacklight Poster
Description: Uvalde, TX, Houston Blacklight and Poster Distribution Co, 1971. Unbound. Single sheet. Approximately 33 ½ by 21 ½ inches. A blacklight poster by artist George Goode, who worked as a storyboard artist, among other illustration related work. Created for the Houston Blacklight and Poster Company, a company who commercially produced a wide range of blacklight posters including sex positions, bands, etc. They also created a subset genre of posters using the then contemporary iconography of the Black power movement, of which this poster is a particularly good example (see Jackson, The Forgotten Radicalism of Black Light Posters). GOOD condition. Two 2 ½ tears at the upper center and upper right edge, with an associated crease and horizontal tearing along this crease. This renders the upper right rather brittle and in danger of detaching. Small puncture in that area. A few other small chips and tears along the edges. Fair .
