Among the usual Christian moral essays and religious essays are two articles on the then recently emancipated African Americans in the US. The first talks about the growth of African American settlements near Washington DC, Alexandria and elsewhere, in some sense the African Americans being refugees from the Civil War. The article talks about the housing, establishment of education and other subjects. Another short article talks about the African American community forming in Vicksburg. GOOD condition. Horizontal and vertical fold creases present. Two areas of insect wear affecting the upper center of both leaves, resulting in some loss of text. One about an inch in area, the other about a narrow half inch long. Some toning and minor soiling. Moderate chipping, creasing and tearing along the upper edge. Good .
