Title: Tom of Finland Foundation Dispatch. Summer 1990. Vol. II. No. 3
Description: Los Angeles, Tom of Finland Foundation, Publisher, 1990. Wraps. Wraps. Single sheet, four pages, 8 ½ by 11 inches. Black and white illustrations throughout, basically bountiful art of bulging bikers and others, by Tom of Finland. A newsletter issued by the Tom of Finland Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1984. Originally founded to preserve and promote the erotic art of Tom of Finland, the foundation expanded its mission to include all erotic art, with a focus on homoerotic work. Tom of Finland (Touko Laaksonen) was a Finnish artist who produced highly stylized homoerotic art focusing on gay men. His work often depicted men in uniform, or leather clad bikers, with the images countering the heterosexual stereotypes often associated with such people. While Laaskonen's art has received mixed reviews, it paved the way for many other gay artists. This issue of the newsletter has a variety of news briefs on art events, as well as part of a bio of Tom of Finland. It also alludes to Jesse Helms and the atmosphere of hostility toward gay art from mainstream culture. VERY GOOD condition. Two horizontal fold creases present. Light toning and edgewear. Very Good .
