Description: Philadelphia, Philadelphia Detective Agency, Publisher. Unbound. no date, perhaps circa 1870s/1880s. Single sheet, 8 ½ by 11 inches. Printed on a single side only. Advertisement for the Philadelphia Detective Agency, a company apparently owned by William B. Spittall. Office listed at 341 Walnut St. Philadelphia. Based on old business directory listings, it appears Spittall was also manager of the Coal and Iron Police at some point, a force often used in strikebreaking. The handbill describes the detective agency's terms and services, including missing persons, mysterious murders, detention of train wreckers, robberies, forgeries, etc. POOR condition. Apparently once glued onto another surface, with heavy one inch margins of glue stains along all extremities, especially prevalent on the reverse. Jagged ½ inch by 4 inch section of paper torn off from the upper margin. Small hole in the lower right center of the piece, with minor loss of text. General faint staining and soiling, with minor wrinkling. Poor .
