A souvenir book issued in conjunction with the 19th Grand Lodge Meeting of the B.P.O. Elks, No. 23, in Buffalo, New York. Includes a short history of the lodge, photos and descriptions of Buffalo and its environs, photos of members of the lodge, committee members, etc. The Elks were originally established in 1868 as a means to raise funds to support actors in need of financial support for medical and other expenses. Rooted in minstrel performers, the organization barred African-Americans, Jewish people and other minorities from their organization, becoming desegregated around 1962. GOOD condition. General fading and minor soiling to the wrappers. Some chipping and creasing along the extremities. Rear wrapper with dark scuffs. Scattered soiling and general toning in the interior. Good .
