Volume two only of this study of the people, climate and animals of North America. By Cornelius de Pauw, a Dutch philosopher, who despite never visiting America, considered himself an expert on the country. He insisted that Native Americans were inferior to Europeans, degraded by an inferior climate, and asserted that Europeans that moved to America also became degraded. He routinely dismissed evidence to the contrary, such as the Aztec calendar. With a rebuttal to de Pauw's work by Dom Pernety. GOOD condition. Ex-library with call numbers on the spine, interior pastedowns and stamping. Minor soiling, scuffing and fading to the covers. Small dampstain to the rear cover.
