Papyrus was a long running little magazine founded in 1903, well regarded by critics and others, including Ezra Pound. Monahan was noted for his literary and social criticism of American and European culture and literature (see MacLeod, American Little Magazines of the Fin de Siecle, pages 260-262). Single issue, primarily featuring editorials and essays by Michael Monahan, although with some presumably republished material by Anatole France, as well as an essay by Lafcadio Hearn "The Japanese Smile." VERY GOOD condition. Minor soiling, fading and wrinkling to the covers. Many pages unopened in the interior. Binding staples rusted. Very Good .
