Gilt banding and compartments on the spine and covers. 584 pp. Black and white illustrations and plates throughout. All text in French. A biography and study of the life and art of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, a French Neoclassical painter known for his portraits using distorted space and form that served as a link to modern painting (Wikipedia). GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing and some gouging to the leather corners and along the spine. Minor darkening and fading. Light soiling. 2 plates (at pages 160 and 288) were detached and have been tipped in using archival glue. Text block cracked at those locations, with several gatherings of pages feeling somewhat loose, but still intact, in the binding. Foxing present along the page edges. Good .
