The Embargo Act of 1807 was instituted by Thomas Jefferson against Britain and France, in an effort to assert US rights to free trade with both countries, and as economic punishment against Britain and its impressment of US navy seamen. The act was unpopular and caused economic hardships to the American economy. GOOD condition. General toning and darkening. Minor soiling, creasing and edgewear.
