She gives a fine account of prairie life on the Illinois. As a young bride of 16 she went overland to Oregon with her husband and father. The party was overtaken by Col. Fremont in the Sioux Country and were escorted part of the way by him. She gives an account of meeting Dr. Whitman on the Powder River, a description of the Grand Ronde Valley, and the peril of being lost for 11 days in the Cascade Mountains, and much other out-of-the-way material of the overland as seen through a woman's eyes," Decker 22:111.
