Manuscript receipt, dated May 7th, 1791, from the State of Connecticut in Account with Gideon Granger itemizing a series of duties charged for legal work such as appeals, wills, and petitions. Marked as paid. Total £6.1. Political essayist and lawyer Gideon Granger (1767-1822) was a lawyer, Yale graduate, and at this time a member of the Connecticut House of Representative; a Federalist initially, he moved towards supporting Thomas Jefferson who appointed him Postmaster General in 1801. After being replaced in 1814, Granger settled in New York, where he held control over various tracts of land, and remained involved in regional politics. Very good, folded, minor soiling, ink staining, and ink bleed through.
