Gold Rush era letter from John Hobart to Trinity County Clerk, J.A.Watson, resigning from his post in Weaverville, California . "I will be obliged to you to tender in my resignation as Road overseer for Rattlesnake Creek Road District to the Board of Supervisors when next they meet as I am doubtfull that circumstance will keep me in that section of the County throughout the summer.." Weaverville, California, founded in 1850, was a Gold Rush town and once had a population of nearly 2500 Chinese goldminers. In 1855 the Weaverville Trinity Times called attention " the large and rapidly increasing number of Chinese among us..crowding themselves into every vacant spot they can find. Very good, minor creasing along edges and folds, minor soiling, contents clean.
