Mainly concerning the speeches on the Celebration of the Anniversary of the Glorious Fourth July, 1776 as well as toasts. Began in 1844; ceased in Sept. 1846. Scarce, especially the "Extras." Not at AAS. OCLC locates issues from 1846 at only two libraries: LOC and Lib. Co. of Phila, with the later the only institution listing this July 14 extra. Provenance: Copy of H.B. Chew, Towsontown, Md. Henry Banning Chew (1800 - 1866) was one of thirteen founding members of the Philomathean Society, the University of Pennsylvania's first student organization. He went on to become a successful merchant. He married the daughter of Governor Charles Ridgely of Hampton, Maryland. In 1921 the Chew family sold the land from his mansion to Goucher College. A very good copy with owner's name and address on top margin, light foxing.
