Description: New York, New-York Mirror, 1833. First edition. Self wrappers. [337-344] pp. Illus. with b/w engravings. 4to. First page dedicated to a metal, sculptured by A.J. Mason, presented to Lafayette, with a large engraving of the metal with the images of Washington and Lafayette below a partial globe mentioning America and France, topped by a huge eagle. The medal was presented to Lafayette, by L.W. Stevens, M.L. Smith, and J.M. Catlin on behalf of the the Twenty-Seventh Regiment of Artillery, National Guard. It was sent to James Fennimore Cooper in Paris, who presented it to Lafayette. Letters from all three parties make up the bulk of the text on page 1. Spine reinforced else a very good copy.
