Compilation of a series of 1816 correspondence that responds to Congress' about whether any alterations are necessary to equalize the duty on the capacity of stills, boilers, and other instruments used in distillation. The transmission is introduced by William H. Crawford of the Treasury Department, who ascertains that the "result of the inquiry institued..renders it doubtful whether any change in the existing system is indispensably necessary." American Imprints 42630. A very good copy with War Department Library stamp on title, faint scattered foxing.
