Title: Resolves, &C. Of the General Court of Massachusetts. Passed at the Session Begun and Held at Boston, on Thursday the Fifteenth Day of November, Anno Domini 1804. [with]... , on Thursday the Seventeenth Day of January, Anno Domini 1805
Description: Boston, Printed by Young & Minns, 1805. First edition. Stitched, in original plain wrappers. 8 pp.; [41-96] pp. + index [7 pp]. Folio. Cabel Strong, Governor, announced the passage of the eleventh amendment which revised presidential election procedures. His long speech for the second session reflected the worries over disunity, and he used the example of France and the rest of Europe to highlight his point. Resolve LXXXIX requested that the Governor instruct the state's Senators in Congress to seek an amendment to the Constitution to ban the slave trade (Feb. 15, 1805). Resolve CVII provided funds for the Botanical Garden at Cambridge. The Massachusetts Society for Promoting Agriculture had proposed it to promote "knowledge in native and foreign plants useful in agriculture, horticulture, and medicine, as well as the encouragement of the sciences of botany and entomology." Though the Society had raised funds by subscription, they had been spent in creating a professorship at Harvard and gathering plans and a library. Shaw & Shoemaker 6743. Shaw & Shoemaker 8868. A good+ untrimmed copy, title and date inked on front wrapper, light dampstain on index and wrappers, several corners creased, scattered foxing, edges darkened and worn, some offsetting, but impressions quite sharp.
