Fine. - An original pen & ink drawing consisting of 2 panels drawn on 3-7/8 inch high by 13-1/4 inch wide art paper. The strip portrays Mr. Abernathy seated on a couch passionately kissing a young woman. As the smoke alarms go off in the next panel, the young woman proclaims "You set off the smoke alarms again" to which Abernathy replies "Some men have it, some men don't". The syndicate's credits are printed on a strip of paper mounted between the 2 panels, with the date "1-31" penned at the bottom left of the second panel. Signed by Frank Ridgeway at the bottom right of the first panel. There is a light blue graphite marking at the right edge of the strip. Near fine. Created by Frank Ridgeway and Ralston Jones, the daily comic strip was first syndicated in 1957. Ridgeway continued the strip on his own after Ralston Jones retired in 1980. After studying at New York's Arts Student League and at the School of Visual Arts, Frank Ridgeway worked for Famous Studios as an animation storyman. He subsequently worked for Hanna-Barbera and DiC Entertainment. He and Jones created the "Mr. Abernathy" comic strip in 1957 with Ridgeway scripting and Jones drawing the strip. He continued the strip on his own when Jones retired. A teacher at the Famous Artists' School, Ridgeway also wrote scripts for the "Lancelot" daily comic strip and "Duck Tales" stories. Fine .
