The 9-panel strip, printed in 3 horizontal columns, leads with Fred Flinstone complaining to Barney that he won't join a health club "I need to lose weight... not a bunch of money!" In the following panels, Barney spots a stranger, who from the back looks just like Fred, buying donuts at a bakery. Mistaking him for Fred, Barney shouts out to him that "You don't need those donuts!" "You're FAT enough!". Realizing his mistake when the man turns around, Barney apologizes "I'm sorry... I thought you were my friend", to which the stranger responds "You actually HAVE a friend?" The credits are printed along the right edge of the last panel. The strip is colored by hand with numbers identifying the color penciled in as a guide for the printer. "Flinstones 8/17" is penned on a strip of paper pasted to the verso. Once folded, there is a vertical crease down the center of the comic strip. There are creases and minor soiling to the edges with staple holes at top right. Very good.

The artist & cartoonist Karen Matchette worked at the Hank Ketcham studios. From 1980 to 1993, she drew the "Dennis The Menace" comic books and drew, inked and colored the Sunday strip. She subsequently both wrote and drew the "Flintstones" comic strip from 1994 to 1998. Moving to Canada, she went on to work as Lynn Johnston's art assistant on "For Better or For Worse". Returning to the U.S. she's returned to working on "Dennis The Menace" and the "Scooby Do" comic books. Fine .
