The Illustrated Guide to the Shootings of Scotland
Messrs. Tennat, Ross & Wallace, Ltd, 1905. Hardcover. 270p + xvi adverts. Stated First edition. Issued by The Club Shooting and Fishing Agency in order to supply a long felt want. Appears to have originally been a paper bound production - but this copy bound in full leather with gilt lines amd titling on spine. Lists details of several hundred shooting estates, many of which are illustrated , describing their area, bag, fishings, details of accomodation, nearest station etc with a few general remarks. Front cover illustrated in red with a deer and flying grouse calls for a sporting map of Scotland which is not present. Adverts include self heating cans, the Largest Stuffing Establishment in Britain (MacLeay Inverness), leggings and portable buildings. Sadly the book has been well used and the front board is detached and earlier leaves are loose, but apart from missing map all complete. The binding has been supported by sellotape in the past and its removal has led to some neat but linear loss. Bookplate of previous owner and signature on prelims. Rebinding copy. See scans. . Fair
