RODERICK HAIG-BROWN.
The Western Angler: An Account of Pacific Salmon and Western Trout. {Both Volumes Signed by Roderick Haig-Brown}.
New York. The Derrydale Press. 1939. Limited Edition. Both volumes signed by Haig-Brown on the half-title. Two Volumes. Vol. 1: 200 pp. Vol. 2: 191 pp. including index. Quarto (10 1/2 x 8). This is a mixed numbered set. Volume 1 is number 560 and volume 2 is number 552 of 950 sets published. Color frontispiece showing artificial flies in each volume. Exquisite color plates of fish by E.B.S. Logier. Black and white photos. Text drawings. Foreword by C. McC. Mottley. Since its publication long ago, Haig-Brown's masterful treatment of fly fishing in the Pacific Northwest remains the most comprehensive and thorough account published. This set at one time belonged to former Washington state legislator Charles H. Todd with his signature in both volumes. Mr. Todd was a lifelong Democrat (and in today’s world, it’s the only sane major political body in the U.S.) and one of Seattle’s most well-known attorneys and an accomplished fly fisherman. The two volumes bound in their original red cloth with gilt titles and decorations. There’s some light soiling to the covers, otherwise this is a very good set. Signed copies of the Derrydale Press edition are scarce. Signed by Author.

RODERICK HAIG-BROWN.
The Western Angler: An Account of Pacific Salmon and Western Trout. {Two Volumes. Inscribed by Roderick Haig-Brown to Legendary Washington State Angler, Walter Johnson. With Original Photos of Roderick Haig-Brown and Walter Johnson Laid-in}.
New York. The Derrydale Press. 1939. Limited Edition. Set number 381 of 950 copies published. Two volumes: Vol. 1: 200 pp. Vol. 2: 191 pp. including index. Quartos (12 x 9). Inscribed and signed by Roderick Haig-Brown in 1947 to Walter Johnson on the half-title page (both volumes signed by Haig-Brown). Laid-in are several original color photos of Walt Johnson and Roderick Haig-Brown. Lightly tipped-in on the half-title page is a note in Walt Johnson's hand, written near the end of his life, presenting the two volumes to a close friend; the remainder of the photos are kept in a tipped-in envelope. Color frontispiece showing flies dressed by Roderick Haig-Brown, Tommy Brayshaw, William Nation, Gen. Noel Money, and Harkley & Haywood in both volumes. With the folding map of British Columbia fishing waters opposite page 3 in volume one. Exquisite color plates of fish by E.B.S. Logier. Black and white plates. Charts and tables, one folding. Walter Johnson was a gifted steelhead fly fisherman who enjoyed great success fishing the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River and Deer Creek in Washington state, and he is credited with the development of many effective fly patterns for the region. He was also elected President of the Washington Fly Fishing Club. This is a nice example of the best work on Western trout and salmon fly fishing and its fisheries by Roderick Haig-Brown, who is without contradiction the best writer on the subject. A unique set. The two volumes are clean, bright, and in fine condition in a beautiful, custom slip case bound in red morocco with the title in gilt on the side panel. Signed by Author.

RODERICK L. HAIG-BROWN.
The Western Angler. An Account of Pacific Salmon and Western Trout. {Two Volumes}.
Lyon, Mississippi. The Derrydale Press. 1991. One of 2500 sets published. Two volumes. Quartos (10 1/2 x 8). Vol. 1: 200 pp. Vol. 2: 192 pp. including index. Foldout map of British Columbia fishing waters bound in opposite page 3 in volume one. Color frontispiece of artificial flies in both volumes. Color plates of game fish by E. B. S. Logier. Black and white photos. Text illustrations. This reprint is an affordable alternative to the sometimes pricey 1939 limited edition. Both volumes bound in full black leatherette with gilt titles on the spines and front covers. Marbled end papers. All edges gilt. A nice set. In fine condition.
