Signed Original Photographs of Actresses Colleen Moore and Lilian Bond

(1920s - 1930s); 8 1/2 x 6 1/2 and 5 x 7; signed in black and blue ink, respectively; affixed to photo-album sheets; Moore's with a bit of rubbing and two small creases to edges and corners; Bond's with a small cut to top edge and the signature ink slightly smeared; overall in very good condition. Colleen Moore, nee Kathleen Morrison (1899 - 1988) began her career during the Silent Film Era, continued performing in sould films, and soon became one of the film industry's biggest stars of the period. She was also considered one of the most fashionable ones, popularizing her trademark bobbed hairstyle. Moore's filmography included 64 movies. Today, due to a series of unfortunate events and inadequate preservation, half of her films are considered lost. Lilian M. Bond (1908 - 1991) was a British-American actress, who began her Hollywood career in 1929 in "No More Children." She appeared in 48 films, including her her best-known role in "The Westerner" in 1940, together with Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan. Very good .

Jotemache
La Tierra (Earth)
Barcelona, Union de Quiosqueros, 1931. First Edition. First edition, n. d. (1931); 6 3/4 x 4 3/4; pp. [3], 6-28, [4]; stapled, pictorial wraps, printed in black, white, and red; illustrated with four half-tones; a bit of wear to corners and spine; very good condition. A wonderful and quite-rare photoplay for this Russian, Proletariat, silent movie, it was published for its release in Barcelona in November of 1931, a year after it was first shown in Russia. The illustrated synopsis, with simple dialogue, appeared in the weekly publication "La Pelicula Nueva," Vol. I, No. 4, although in this case the entire issue was devoted to this one film, whose plot revolved around collectivization. After its appearance, the creator - screen writer, producer, and director Oleksandr Dovzhenko (1894 - 1956) - was forced by the Soviet Gocernment to severely re-edit it. Praised as one of the best silent movies ever made, it was voted one of the twelve greatest films of all time by a panel of over a 100 film historians at the 1958 Brussels World Fair and named one of the top ten greatest films of all time by the International Film Critics Symposium. This publication was especially timely, here issued during the Second Spanish Republic, when agricultural reform and the topic of agricultural cooperatives were major political and economic topics. .

There's Punch in Judy! Judy Garland in 'Little Nellie Kelly'
S. l. (New York), Film Daily, 1940. First Edition. Large, two-page ad, appearing on November 28, 1940, in the 'Film Daily;' 12 x 9; card stock sheet - lithographed illustration to recto, text and a photographic image to verso; decorated with an elaborate, embossed, gilt border and gilt highlights of the illustration; a small cut and a bit of wear to top edge; several light creases; in about very good condition. A beautiful and lavish publication, it advertised 'Little Nellie Kelly," the film based on a 1922 George M. Cohan show. It would be significant in Garland's career for several reasons, including the fact that it would be the only movie, in which she had a death scene. Furthermore, it was said the production would be one, where MGM would "groom young Judy for adult stardom." . Very good .

[Produced by] Fleischer, Max; et al
A Collection of Six Original Photographs from Various Animated Films
Hollywood, Walt Disney Productions / Paramount Pictures, 1939. Six studio still photographs (one borderless) from "Pinocchio," "Dumbo" and "Gulliver's Travels," 1939 - 1941; 8 x 10; all from The Examiner's Reference Library, with the newspaper's stamp on verso, holograph notes (describing the specific scenes) and/or mimeo snipes pasted on; overall in very good condition - with small creases to corners, one with two small nicks to bottom edge, one with a slight ripple to right margin. Depicting various moments from the original films, the photographs featured Dumbo, Gideon the Cat, Fox, King Little and King Bombo, and Gabby. Although eagerly-anticipated, Pinocchio, based on Carlo Colodi's 1883 novel and released in February of 1940, was not quite successful. To recoup the financial losses of Pinocchio, among other goals, Dumbo was released in October of 1941 to become the most financially-successful Disney film of the 1940s. Losely based on Swift's novel, Gulliver's Travels was directed by Max Fleischer and released right before Christmas of 1939 to become a box-office success and to be nominated for two Academy Awards - Best Music, Original Score and Best Music, Original Song. Very good .
