A 37 90 89. Die Erfindung Der Neo-Avantgarde
Köln, Walther Konig. 2019, Exhibition Catalog. Soft Cover. Book, New. n.b.k. Exhibitons Vol. 23. Text: DE. 272 p.; ill.; 16 x 23 cm; 630 g. New. 'Initiated in Antwerp in 1969 by a progressive group of collectors, gallery owners as well as art mediators, and supervised by Kasper König, the project space A 37 90 89 developed a diverse curatorial practice that tested alternative models of art production and art mediation beyond the institutions. The volume published on the occasion of the exhibition A 37 90 89 – The Invention of the Neo-Avant-Garde (September 27, 2018 – January 27, 2019, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein) shines light on the events in the context of the historical project space A 37 90 89, where the radical changes of the way contemporary art is presented and received, which resulted from the political and artistic upheaval of the 1960s and 1970s, were expressed in an emblematic way. The publication encompasses hitherto unpublished material on the history of A 37 90 89, an introduction by Marius Babias and Florian Waldvogel, texts by Beatrice von Bismarck and Birgit Pelzer, asl well as interviews by Florian Waldvogel with Isi Fiszman and Kasper König.' DE BAERE, BART / CLEPPE, BIRGIT / PAS, JOHAN
Ercola : Experimental Research Center of Liberal Arts 1968 - 2018
Tielt, Lannoo. 2018, Exhibition Catalog. Soft Cover. Book, New. Text: NL/EN. 319 p.; ill.; 23 x 29,5 cm; 930 g. Mint copy. 'ERCOLA (Experimental Research Center Of Liberal Arts) started in November 1968 as a friends initiative of illustrators Jean-Claude Block and Jean-Claude Buytaert, photographer Piet Verbist and author Dominique Donnet. In the early 1970s, ERCOLA in Antwerp developed into a hub in the widespread network of informal multidisciplinary artist initiatives. In 1971, ERCOLA became a non-profit organization and the ambitions and intentions of the association are clear from its statutes: 'The study, pursuit and centralization of contemporary creative art by being a productive and informative center in particular through sound, color -, light, time and space distribution.' This endeavor translated into a great diversity stylistically and artistically: visual art, music, theater, costume and set design, architecture, comics, film, performance and photography were discussed, and all these disciplines are also included in the exhibition. ERCOLA connects artists from different generations and backgrounds. The intake of artists is based on interhumanity, warmth and social drive, which translates into an unruly and idiosyncratic attitude towards the world. The exhibition (MuHKA, Antwerp, 15.09.2018-6.1.2019) featured work by all ERCOLA members since November 1968: Jean-Claude Block, Jean-Claude Buytaert, Dominic Donnet, Piet Verbist, Luk Carlens, George ‘Toet’ Smits, Werner ‘Griffo’ Goelen, Luc Deleu, Rémonde Panis, Frans Van Roosmaelen, Filip Francis, Hilde Frunt, Luc Monheim, Bernd Urban, Monique Nagielkopf, Suzy van Poeyer-Bailleux, Ferre Grignard, Will Dellaert, Ria Pacquée, Mike Zinzen, Patricia Beysens, Eva Pletinckx, Rudi Renson, Nicole Van Goethem, Ellen Verryt, Lucas De Pauw, Martine Van Nuffel, Wannes Van De Velde, Joop Mackenbach, Nancy Bailleux, Jessica-Lynn Lens, Els Proost, Jeron Suls, Bob Verhelst, G. Taub, Friede Kuterna aka Frieda Korda, Djuna Van Der Borgt, Corry Bellemans, Stanko Prce, Slavitsa Matjesevic, Marcel Decleer, Sanja Camilovic, Viviane Coubergs, Jean-Pierre Van Ophem, Dennis Tyfus, Suzanne Van Well, Vaast Colson, Peter Fengler, Mima Schwahn, Leo A.
