The Geographical Distribution of Mammals
London: Day and Son, 1866. First edition Pp. xvi, 420, color frontis plate of a marsupial and placental mouse, color diagram of geological section of the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic periods, 101 color maps (some are double page). Publisher's original blind-stamped green cloth with spine lettered in gilt, lg 4to. This is one of the first works to describe the worldwide distribution of mammals. A historically important and scarce title. Single old circular stamp of Belcher Library, Gaysville, Vermont on the front endpaper, no other ownership marks. Light edge wear to cloth at the head and foot of the spine, foxing to the rear (blank) side of the frontis plate, double-page map 28 has a small stain along the outer top edge - all remaining parts of the text, plates and maps are bright and clean without any foxing or browning; a bright and clean copy in near fine condition..
