One-half dark brown leather, lettered in gilt in on the spine and with gilt panel lines, over white cloth-covered boards, (original printed light-gray wrappers bound in place), tan endpapers, sm folio (13 x 9 3/4 inches). Memoirs of the University of California, vol. 1, no. 1. The material upon which this monograph was based includes over fifty specimens, each of which represents a considerable part of the skeleton; also, a large quantity of more fragmentary material was included in the study. These collections had been brought together by ten expeditions sent out by the University of California between 1901 and 1907. Many new species resulted from these expeditions. This volume was originally sent to Peabody Museum at Yale University, it was later stamped duplicate; stamps from the Museum appear on the front wrapper. Also, on the front wrapper there is the small ink stamp of Grant E. Meyer, who was the assistant to J. C. Merriam. This volume is also from the research collection of herpetologist Lauren E.
