Lafcadio Hearn
Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan, Volume I.
Boston, Houghton, Mifflin and Company, 1896. Hardcover. 342p. Ex-library. A hardcover book bound in green cloth with silver decorations. Good reading condition. Edges rubbed, sticker on spine, and binding slightly cockeyed, though still tight. Old library markings, bookplate, and card pocket inside, but text itself unmarked, save for light spotting in top margin of pages 18-19. A much-handled but sturdy reading copy. Volume 1 only (of 2). A book on Japanese culture, written by a popular Greek-born writer who eventually settled in Japan. Hearn is perhaps best remembered for his collections of Japanese legends and ghost stories, such as KWAIDAN. Fair .
