Gabriel Garcia Marquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude
Gabriel Garcia Marquez
One Hundred Years of Solitude
New York, Harper and Row, 1970. 1st American Edition. Hardcover. Fine condition in like dustjacket. This is the first printing of the American edition of Marquez's classic in the second-state dustjacket with a period on the front flap instead of an exclamation point. The state of the jacket does not correlate to the book; books and jackets are printed separately and matched up after they are printed; it is pure chance which jacket goes on which book meaning one of the earliest printed copies of the book could have one of the last jackets printed. In any case, this is the first printing of the American edition of one of the great literary works of the 20th century. The book itself is in fine condition. The jacket bears the $7.95 price and is complete with no chips or tears, but showing very slight shelfwear along its edges. Both the book and the jacket are highly attractive and in overall fine condition. Published in 1967, One Years of Solitude is widely regarded as one of the most important works of 20th century literature and one of the great classics of Spanish literature. It is Marquez's most famous and important novel and set the path which led to his Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. .

Franklin X. McCormick, ed, A Portfolio of Ecclesiastical Designs
Franklin X. McCormick, ed
A Portfolio of Ecclesiastical Designs
1954. Leather bound. A SUPERB COLLECTION OF CATHOLIC CHURCH ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNS FROM THE 1940s AND 1950s. A leather folder contains a selection of xx loose plates. Each plate contains information on a single building, including such details as seating capacity and total cost ti build and furnish. There are both photographs of the building and architectural sketches. All information on each structure is on a single one-sided plate which measures 12 x 15 inches. A TOTAL OF 152 BLACK-AND-WHITE PLATES. The portfolio itself is a mix of plates from the 1945 and 1954 editions. There is an index included from the 1954 edition although not all 1954 plates are present (nor are all 1945 plates present). Almost all the plates are churches with about a dozen being other Catholic buildings (rectories, etc). The index for the 1954 edition calls for 140 plates of which 73 were churches and the rest primarily Catholic schools. While we do not have a 1945 index, we suspect someone preserved most of the Church designs from the two portfolios and discarded most of the drawings of schools etc. .
