[GAME]
Englische Park. English Park. Parc Anglais.
Germany, c. 1820. Game or toy. Box 195 x 245 mm., board 350 x 455 mm. and 56 of 58 pieces, all hand coloured cut out shapes> the board a little grubby, the label badly browned and worn, the box lid split in two. The colours on the individual pieces still nice and bright. I have been unable to trace another copy. A most attractive 3 dimensional perspective construction toy, the board with slots running horizontally to insert the numbered pieces into their correct place> the slots very tight so I have been unwilling to press the pieces into place in case of damage. Some of the numbers have worn off the pieces so it is not clear where they fit, and without a key it has not been possible to establish which pieces might be lacking.

[JAMES ROBERTS after]
An Essay on Woman. Illustrated with Notes from Various Authors.
Robert Sayer, 17th October, 1772. Etched and engraved print, 335 x 225 mm. trimmed to the border and laid down. A rare satirical/allegorical literary/anatomical engraving featuring a half skeleton mirrored with a fully clothed character. Seemingly not held by any British institutions, this image exists bearing a number of imprints, we previously had one published by M. Darby and dated 1769. However this is a reverse of that image with the woman facing right, as is the copy held at Yale.

[HENRY BLACHFORD SHILLIBEER]

Wilton: H.B. Shillibeer, printer, c. 1820. Small 8vo. pp. 8> drop head title, unbound, old reinforcing tape to left hand margin. A satire on a forthcoming election at Taunton, Somerset. "...the next thing on the list, was to see Mr. Henry Blachford Shillibeer, privately to take the state of the Burrow." The piece ends "To be continued." Shillibeer was the author of several books about Taunton published about this time so it seems reasonable to ascribe this piece to him.
