Image size 110 x 180 mm, bound in original green cloth, gilt, spine and inner joints recently professionally restored, the margins a little spotted. Rare. No U.K. holdings are traced. PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHS
The Crowned Heads of the Time. Thirty Bust-Portraits with Short Biographies.
Fred. Bruckman, 1880. Folio. pp. 61> 30 woodburytype photographic portraits. Original red pebble grained cloth, bevelled edges, gilt cloth straps threaded through covers, lower clasp missing, all edges gilt. Cancel title page loosely inserted. Possibly the only complete copy extant, I can trace no other copy. Originally published in New York by George Kirchner & Co., this would appear to be an issue sent to England for marketing here> the title page, printed in red green and black is cut down and loosely inserted. All copies issued in the U.S. are described as complete with 29 portraits, that of Maria Alexandrowna wife of Alexander II Emperor of Russia, not being included as she died on 3rd June 1880, presumably after printing was complete and this copy dispatched to England. Further tragedy followed on 13th March 1881, when her widower Alexander II was assassinated. Further publication may then have been abandoned and a similar, but different title, The Crowned Heads of Europe, Thirty Four Bust Portraits, was published in 1884 illustrating Alexander III and his wife Maria Feodorovna in their place, together with four other portraits of recently created European royalty. There are no locations listed for this English issue which may never have been published, 8 locations listed for the U.S. Edition, all as complete with 29 portraits. Of particular note are the splendid moustaches of the monarchs.

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHS
The Crowned Heads Europe. Thirty Four Bust-Portraits with Short Biographies.
J. F. Schipper & Co. and Munich: Frederick Bruckmann, 1884. Folio. pp. 61> 34 woodburytype photographic portraits. Original red pebble grained cloth, bevelled edges, gilt cloth straps threaded through covers, a little worn and lacking clasps, inner joint tender. An earlier edition with 30 portraits, published in 1880 was seemingly abandoned following the deaths of Maria Alexandrovna of Russia in 1880, and her husband Alexander II of Russia who was assassinated in 1881> complete copies of the early edition are rare. Curiously, their names appear in the contents page of this title, but they are replaced by their successors Alexander III and Maria Feodorovna. Additionally there are 4 additional portraits to the earlier edition: Charles I, King of Roumania and his wife Elizabeth> and Milan, King of Servia and his wife Natalie. Both Roumania [1881] and Servia [1882] were newly created Kingdoms following the Russo-Turkish War in 1878. Two of the portraits> those of Maria Christine, Queen of Spain, and Georgios I of Greece, differ from those in the earlier edition. Four copyright libraries only listed on Jisc [not in BL], 2 further locations listed on OCLC [one in the U.S., one in Spain].
