[c.1900]. 8vo., with large folding coloured frontispiece, 7 fine coloured plates and 26 plates in monochrome, advertisement endpapers and title mildly age-soiled, some mild and inoffensive foxing (primarily marginal) throughout; original dark green cloth, upper board and backstrip blocked and lettered in gilt and colours, expertly rebacked with old backstrip laid down, a very good, firm copy. Complete with front and rear advertisement endpapers, and 2pp publisher's catalogue at end. Isabella Beeton's final work, the 'Dictionary of Every-Day Cookery' was first published in 1865 and is second in importance only to 'Household Management'. Following her death in the same year, her husband's publishing house of S.O. Beeton was acquired by Ward Lock & Tyler [subsequently Ward Lock] who naturally set about reissuing all the 'Beeton' cookery titles. The 'Dictionary' was retitled initially the 'Every-Day Cookery and Housekeeping Book' and from 1907 'Mrs. Beeton's Every-Day Cookery'. See Driver, p.102 and our own bibliography (in progress).
