BARTON-ASCHMAN ASSOCIATES, Inc.
Needs and Opportunities for Coordinating Renewal and Transport Improvement A Study Prepared for the City of Chicago Community Renewal Program by...
Chicago 1963 x, 124pp, bw photos, two colour maps and diagrams throughout. 31x24, comb bound card covers Comb brittle and missing sections, card browning, contents good. Interesting report on how to remake Chicago's streets in the light of fast rising traffic levels; the massive expansion of the urban expressway system was taken as read, but this report suggests how local residential streets could be freed from domination by cars. At the same time this opened up opportunities for urban renewal schemes.

BRESSEY Sir Charles & LUTYENS Sir Edwin
Highway Development Survey 1937 (Greater London)
London, HMSO, 1938. iv, 68pp, incl 6 plates of diagrams, 2 large folding road plan maps in rear pocket. 33x22, red cloth, glt text. Cloth marked and bowed, foxing throughout, maps have been mounted on cloth - they are intact and complete but browned - and the resulting increase in bulk has stretched the binding and split the map pocket. Fair thus. The Bressey Lutyens Report. A scarce and informative item, issued by the Ministry of Transport. A late '30s attempt to solve the eternal problems of London traffic. Bressey, who carried out most of the work, was a well-known traffic engineer. Little attention is paid to mass transit solutions, although some ideas for roads over railways, are presented. Motorways are already being mooted.
