Its wheelbase remained 119 in (3,000 mm) , but its length was now reduced slightly to 209.3 in (5,320 mm). All engines options of the previous year remained in effect with the standard engines being the 235.5 CID Six of 135 hp (101 kW) or the 283 CID V8 of 170 hp (130 kW). The V8 cost $110 more than the Six and weighed 5 lb (2.3 kg) less. The Bel Air 2-door sedan used squared-off roof styling and large wrap-around rear window as opposed to the hardtop's swept-back design. The Bel Air 4-door Sport Hardtop still used a different roof line than did the 4-door sedan." (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ .

DUMAS, PAUL L. (EDITORIAL DIRECTOR)
1954 Red Tractor Book (Including Nebraska Tests)
Kansas City, MO: Implement & Tractor, 1954. Paperback. B&W Illustrations; This is an oversized paperback book. The book is in Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have rubbing, edge wear and small tears. The covers have generalized rubbing and ground in dirt. The text pages are clean and bright. "Farmall was a model name and later a brand name for tractors manufactured by the American company International Harvester (IH). The Farmall name was usually presented as McCormick-Deering Farmall and later McCormick Farmall in the evolving brand architecture of IH. Farmalls were general-purpose tractors. Their origins were as row-crop tractors, a category that they helped establish and in which they long held a large market share. During the decades of Farmall production (1920s to 1980s) , most Farmalls were built for row-crop work, but many orchard, fairway, and other variants were also built. Most Farmalls were all-purpose tractors that were affordable for small to medium-sized family farms and could do enough of the tasks needed on the farm that the need for hired hands was reduced and the need for horses or mules was eliminated. Thus Farmall was a prominent brand in the 20th-century trend toward the mechanization of agriculture in the US." (from Wikipedia). Good .

The covers have some light edge wear and nicking, along with some ground-in dirt. The text pages are clean and bright. This guide, written in English was most likely for tourists from Great Britain. There are 15 individual tours, each of about 100 miles in length that circle around the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. The tours give directions to old ruins, towns, viewpoints, etc. "Occupied since the Neolithic, Carcassonne is located in the Aude plain between two great axes of circulation linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean sea and the Massif Central to the Pyrénées. Its strategic importance was quickly recognized by the Romans who occupied its hilltop until the demise of the Western Roman Empire and was later taken over by the Visigoths in the fifth century who founded the city. Also thriving as a trading post due to its location, it saw many rulers who successively built up its fortifications up until its military significance was greatly reduced by the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659.". "Deere & Company began when John Deere, born in Rutland, Vermont, United States on February 7, 1804, moved to Grand Detour, Illinois in 1836 to escape bankruptcy in Vermont. Already an established blacksmith, Deere opened a 1,378-square-foot (128 m2) shop in Grand Detour in 1837, which allowed him to serve as a general repairman in the village, as well as a manufacturer of tools such as pitchforks and shovels. Tools were just a start; the item that set him apart was the self-scouring steel plow, which was pioneered in 1837 when John Deere fashioned a Scottish steel saw blade into a plow. Prior to Deere's steel plow, most farmers used iron or wooden plows to which the rich Midwestern soil stuck, so they had to be cleaned frequently. The smooth-sided steel plow solved this problem and greatly aided migration into the American Great Plains in the 19th and early 20th centuries. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good .

JOHNSTON, HANK, Short Line to Paradise the Story of the Yosemite Valley Railroad

Short Line to Paradise the Story of the Yosemite Valley Railroad
Long Beach, CA: Johnston & Howe, 1962. 1st Paperback Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good- condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The bottom edge of the front cover has discoloration where tape was removed from the edge. There is some light creasing / curling to the corners as well. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's inked name on the half title page. "The Yosemite Valley Railroad (YVRR) was a short-line railroad that operated in California from 1907 to 1945, providing a new mode of travel and tourism for the region. It ran from Merced to the Yosemite National Park, but it did not extend to Yosemite Valley itself, as railroad construction was prohibited in the National Parks. [1] Tourists would disembark at the park boundary in El Portal, California and stay overnight at the Hotel Del Portal before taking a stagecoach to Yosemite Valley. The YVRR replaced the stagecoach routes that had dominated travel and tourism in the area since the mid-1870s. However, by the 1920s, the increasing popularity of automobiles had started to overtake the railroad in terms of tourist volume. By the 1940s, the completion of the Yosemite All-Year Highway and the decreased recreational passenger traffic due to World War II had all but eliminated demand for rail passenger service. GENERAL MOTORS, Pontiac General Motors' Second Lowest-Priced Car
GENERAL MOTORS
Pontiac General Motors' Second Lowest-Priced Car
Detroit, MI: General Motors Corp, 1939. Other. Color Illustrations; This is a small format booklet (4" x7" approx. ) The booklet is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The booklet has illustrated self covers and a stapled spine. Thefront cover of the booklet has a light vertical crease. There is a small hole through the top spine corner of the booklet (to be displayed at the dealership). The text pages are clean and bright. "Both of the bodies Pontiac introduced for 1939 were new. So was its strategy, in response to dreadful sales in 1938 that failed to reach 100,000 units, to enter the low-priced field. It thus introduced the Quality Six line, basically grafting Pontiac frontal sheetmetal onto a Chevrolet body. The same frontal treatment was applied to the two bigger Pontiacs, the De Luxe Six and De Luxe Eight, both of which shared their new bodies with Buick, Oldsmobile and La Salle. It was a good move, as 1939 production jumped to more than 140,000.The look is distinctive and evolutionary. For the first time, the prow-shaped Pontiac grille was augmented by catwalks on either side. The main, wraparound side grille was made, persuasively, into a more thoroughly streamlined work of sculpture. Not that it already wasn't, because the 1938 models had horizontal louvers so pronounced and deeply set that they almost qualified as shelves. For 1939, much thinner horizontal chromed bars were combined in four equidistant groups of three each, split by a plain sheetmetal panel. The front grille's forward midpoint was a vertical bright streak, which continued upward to sweep over the hood and backward toward the windshield." (from Hemmings). Very Good .

Custom Cars Magazine April 1960
Los Angeles: Custom Cars Magazine, 1960. Paperback. B&W Illustrations; This is a small format magazine. The magazine is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The spine ends and corners of the magazine have some beginning bumping and rubbing. The text pages are clean, but there is generalized toning throughout. "A custom car is a passenger vehicle that has been either substantially altered to improve its performance, often by altering or replacing the engine and transmission; made into a personal "styling" statement, using paint work and aftermarket accessories to make the car look unlike any car as delivered from the factory; or some combination of both. A desire among some automotive enthusiasts in the United States is to push "styling and performance a step beyond the showroom floor - to truly craft an automobile of one's own." A custom car in British according to Collins English Dictionary is built to the buyer's own specifications." (from Wikipedia). Very Good .

Primarily a freight railway, the CPR was for decades the only practical means of long-distance passenger transport in most regions of Canada and was instrumental in the settlement and development of Western Canada.
