The book has illustrated self-covers and a stapled spine. The book covers have noticeable generalized toning, and some spots of biopredation (bug nibbles ) to the top front cover. The rear cover has a large varied group of spots of foxing. There is one small edge tear to the bottom edge of the book cover. The text pages are clean and bright. "Dick Hafer (1937-2003) , the "Comics Commando!", was a right-wing comic book artist who also did some mainstream comics on such subjects as model railroading (collected in his books This Is NOT The Honeymoon I Anticipated and Sometimes You Gotta Compromise) , dog ownership, and Christian humor books with titles like Church Chuckles and Sunday Snickers. His mainstream books were lightweight "family friendly" humor. His comics on political and social issues were rather batshit. His most infamous political comics, all published during the 1980s, were the anti-abortion I Know That We're a Throw-Away Society — But This Is Ridiculous!; Magical Mike: The Real Story of Mike Dukakis, which was mass-distributed with the urging of Jerry Falwell during the 1988 U. S. Presidential Election; Every Family Has One, an anti-Ted Kennedy work published by Citizens Organized to Replace Kennedy (CORK) ; Is Politics A Dirty Word? (which promoted the "America is a Christian Nation" meme) ; the anti-gun control Stop the Gun Collectors; and his most batshit moment ever, Homosexuality: Legitimate, Alternate Deathstyle. HEFFLIN, JAMES THOMAS AND THE NEW MENACE
War! with Mexico and Nicaragua Desired, Demanded and Promoted By the Knights of Columbus and the Roman Catholic Church Declares Senator Heflin
Aurora, MO: The New Menace, 1927. Stapled wraps. This is a smaller than trade sized booklet with self covers and a stapled spine. The booklet is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The newspaper style paper has some toning, especially to the foredges and spine of the covers. The text pages are clean and bright. "The combination of a steadily increasing U. S. Military presence in Nicaragua and widespread public and private speculation over the rationale for such an interventionist policy served to elicit a much more comprehensive policy declaration from the government. Accordingly, within a matter of days, President Calvin Coolidge, in a message to the Congress, and Secretary of State Frank B. Kellogg, in testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, provided the nation with their perceptions of the situation in Central America. Both Coolidge and Kellogg were unequivocal in their indictments of Mexican meddling in Nicaraguan affairs, insisting that it was Mexican military aid which sustained Juan B. Sacasa’s Liberal forces in their fight against the Conservative government of Adolfo Díaz. In the estimation of President Coolidge, Mexico, “a foreign power, ” was promoting anarchy in Nicaragua, thereby endangering United States strategic and economic interests in that nation, and, by extension, throughout the entire isthmus.3 Secretary Kellogg, in his testimony before the Foreign Relations Committee, reemphasized the threat to U. S. Strategic and economic interests in Nicaragua, and then tarred Mexico with a bolshevist brush in an effort to provide even greater justification for the administration’s interventionist policy.4 Thus, the very highest foreign policy-making echelons within the United States government emphatically laid the blame for the escalating Nicaraguan crisis on a radical Mexican regime intent on extending its hegemony throughout Central America." HERVE, GUSTAVE (TRANSLATED FROM THE FRENCH BY SOLON DE LEON), Antipatriotism Address of Gustave Herve at the Close of His Trial for Anti-Miliaristic Activity, Before the Jury of la Siene, December 1905
HERVE, GUSTAVE (TRANSLATED FROM THE FRENCH BY SOLON DE LEON)
Antipatriotism Address of Gustave Herve at the Close of His Trial for Anti-Miliaristic Activity, Before the Jury of la Siene, December 1905
New York, NY: New York Labor News Company, 1911. Trade Edition. Pamphlet. This is a small format booklet with self covers and a stapled spine. The booklet is in Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The booklet covers have some bumping, rubbing, wear, and at least one tear along with large chips to the back rear corners that has taken off good portions of each. The text pages are mostly clean and bright. "In 1901 Gustave Hervé had attained notoriety with an apparent image of the tricolor planted in a dungpile. Soon he forged a prominent antimilitarist movement called Hervéism. When France's socialist parties united in 1905, Hervé led the most extreme faction. Soon Hervéists created a weekly newspaper, La Guerre sociale, which attempted to unite the extreme French left. Before World War I Hervé was one of the most strident voices within both French socialism and the Second International, advocating violent, revolutionary means to prevent war. Six years of sensational and provocative campaigns and organizations failed to implement his ideas. Despite his dedication, the quixotic Hervé grew frustrated due to continuing leftist divisions. His disillusionment was connected to a rather naive reading of the increasingly anachronistic revolutionary tradition. Hervé was quite sincere, yet his romantic and eclectic socialism exhibited atavistic features. By 1914, he rallied to 'la patrie en danger' and in 1916 changed the name of his paper to La Victoire. THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA / ROBERT LEE HUMBER, The Decleration of the Federation of the World
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA / ROBERT LEE HUMBER
The Decleration of the Federation of the World
Raleigh, NC: Edward & Broughton Co, 1941. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Stapled wraps. This pamphlet is smaller than trade sized, with cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The booklet covers have noticeable toning / darkening. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's penciled notation on the rear cover of the book. (not related to the booklet's subject). " Returning to North Carolina on the eve of World War II, Humber retired from business for the next decade devoted all his time, energy, and resources to what he considered the greatest single challenge confronting mankind—world peace. Stirred by his travels and exposure to other cultures, he was convinced that man's only hope for a permanent and lasting peace lay in the establishment of a world order implemented by a world federal government. In his pamphlet, The Declaration of the Federation of the World, he set forth his idea that order among men could be maintained only under law, law restraining the individual rather than the confrontation of nations through military action after the failure of diplomacy. Humber launched his Movement for World Federation on 27 Dec. 1940 at Davis Island in Core Sound, an old ancestral home. After he had lobbied across the state, the General Assembly passed his resolution, becoming the first legislative body in history to endorse the principles of a world federal government. Humber immediately began a campaign among the other state legislatures, working in nearly all of them himself over the next ten years. Sixteen states adopted his resolution and a number of others accepted his ideas in some modified form. A co-founder of the United World Federalists at Asheville in 1947, he served as vice-president during the next four years and remained on the North Carolina branch's executive council until his death. In 1960 he was elected president of the state organization and served for six years." (from WIkipedia). Very Good .
