STEWART-WARNER SPEEDOMETER CORPORATION, The Stewart Lever
STEWART-WARNER SPEEDOMETER CORPORATION
The Stewart Lever
Chicago: Stewart-Warner Speedometer Corporation, 1923. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Stapled wraps. This is a magazine / advertisement from the Stewart-Warner Speedometer Corporation. The magazine is in Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The magazine covers (both front and rear) have large chips missing, tears, discoloration, rubbed spots, and general wear and tear. The text pages are clean and bright. Included are the articles: What Chance has this Child Got? (regarding brake safety) , Get Started Right - Put More $ in Spring, Rubels and Runabouts (by Dick Goodnow) , And the Same Thing I Told Jim - I Pass on to You, Mr. Dealer! Opportunity Lane Runs Right Down through your Garage, and more. "Stewart-Warner, as the hyphen would suggest, was a company launched from the combined efforts of two men; although the partnership was more like a handshake at the end of a fist fight. In the early years of the automobile, John K. Stewart of Chicago and Arthur Pratt Warner of Beloit, Wisconsin, were leaders of rival companies, each competing to corner the market on the development of new motor car accessories—particularly the speedometer. No shortage of lawsuits were filed between the Warner Instrument Company and the Stewart & Clark MFG Co, with both sides accusing the other of patent infringement and general chicanery. It was only in 1912, nearly a decade into the feud, that A. P. Warner decided to adopt an “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” strategy, agreeing to merge with his nemesis and form a new entity, the Stewart-Warner Speedometer Corporation." (from the Made in Chicago Museum). Good .
